Wrap your sandpaper around a sanding block and gently distress the edges of your painted vanity bench.
How to recover a fabric bench. Then trim off all the excess fabric from the corners and hem. Replace the bench base face down on top of the upholstery material. Wrap the extra 2 inches cut on the width and length up and over to the underside of the bench.
Keep moving down the side pulling the fabric and securing with a staple every 2 inches. Turn it right side out and see if it fits or if adjustments need to be made. Starting with coarse-grit sandpaper then working your way down to medium- then fine-grit go.
Then I laid the lid upside down and the floor and place my fabric over it like this. Then staple the fabric to the lauan with your staple gun. For the corners pull the middle part of the fabric in and staple it down.
Next the depth of the bench seat was 4 12 so I cut my fabric for the side panel in two different strips to save on fabric. I am using 120 grit. Sometimes the screw holes get covered up with the new fabric and I have to hunt for them.
Lift the bench up again. Grab a piece of sandpaper. Making sure the fabric is straight centered as you like and there are no wrinkles.
Tug the fabric gently keeping it taut. Use a little more pressure to distress edges and reveal the original wood underneath. Place your material upside down on the table.
